not my karma

I was born onto the wheel in motion, just as we are all born onto the earth spinning around. So we might as well be nice to one other!

Do I really have "karma" all of my own? (Here, I write "karma" to mean the consequences of past actions and ideas culminating in the present.)

Isn't my karma just an extension of my family's, and my society's? I was born into a culture with certain assumptions and prejudices, and without the mental equipment to separate these assumptions from reality. Born onto the wheel in motion, just as we are all born onto the earth spinning around. So can I really act "independently"? Aren't my actions always biased, at least to some degree, by the spin of my past conditioning?

I tend to think so, which is why I conclude that there are no "evil" people. The "evil" in the world is just what I think of as bubbles of karma -- bubbles of ignorance, basically. People involved in causing suffering don't realize that their own suffering is linked to the suffering of others, and so they don't know any better than to keep doing what they're doing. It's the wheel they've always been on, and they don't know how to get off (or even that they're on).

Might as well be nice to people?
